Will DIY Projects Boost Home Value?

If you’re planning to put your home on the market, you may consider attempting a few DIY projects to increase the value and appeal of your property. But, with so many “easy” and “great” projects taking over our news feeds, knowing where to start – or which projects to tackle first – can be challenging.

It’s no problem for our network of 19,000 Colorado real estate professionals. They know exactly what to do – and who to contact in Denver if you need help.

Remove Excess Junk

I have had to help a hoarder get his land and lot back in shape by recommending haulers, metal scrap people and even garage sale experts tire recycling places for $2 a piece and just getting the dead trees gone is huge!!

Dream Boards

Dream boards. I had a client create a dream board, bring it to the property during inspection and really focus on what was important to her. Today, she lives in her dram property and it inspired me to create this DIY Design Board blog.

Kitchen and Clean-Up

We have been known to actually clean up the kitchen by re-staining old cabinets, helping to get rid of junk, and giving the Sellers the names of trusted handymen and women.

Avoid “Joe Homeowner Special”

I prefer my sellers hire professionals to do their projects. DIY can actually de-value their property aka “joe homeowner special”.

Most Bang for the Buck

I work with sellers on creating an overall list and we categorize it as a must do, would be nice to do, and only if I have time to do. We also focus on the “most for the buck” projects. The areas that will get the most bang are kitchens, baths, flooring & landscaping but this will depend on location.

Know When to Hire Out

One of the biggest mistakes I see Sellers make is to try to do it all themselves. When preparing to hit the market, there are always a slew of tasks that need to be completed. I work with my sellers to determine what is best to complete themselves, and what is best to hire out. With a comprehensive referral database, I am able to connect my Sellers with the right contractors to complete a lot of the work. This limits the stress level for my Sellers and frees up some of their time too.
