Every homeowner’s goal is to make their home as comfortable as possible. However, not everyone has an eye for decor. Most of us often commit design mistakes that make our space feel cramped and stuffy.
It doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t need to hire an expensive interior designer either. With just a few design tweaks, you too can achieve that comfortable ambiance in your home. Here’s how.
1. Get Rugs
You’ll enjoy walking around your home more when there’s always that soft feeling of the rug under your feet. Consider adding them in key strategic areas of your home like in the living room, beside your bed, and the entryway. The bigger, the better.
2. Remove Clutter
Clutter can quickly accumulate in any home, and it can affect how you feel about a particular space. You may not realize it, but that pile of unsorted mail in the kitchen dining table may be the reason why you always feel irritable. Your home should be a place of refuge, not chaos, and to keep it that way, be sure to remove as much clutter as possible.
3. Use Storage
Have storage space for anything that you don’t need immediately. Utilize your shelves, drawers, and under-bed to put away items that contribute to the clutter. And make it a habit to put things back where you got them. Failing to do this is one of the main reasons why clutter builds up in the first place.
4. Add Pillows
Pillows are the icon of comfort, and you can never have too many of them. Add in a couple more, and we’re not just talking about ordinary throw pillows. Go big and get long throw pillows, angled pillows, ridiculously fluffy pillows. You will be surprised by how good they are at supporting different relaxing positions.
5. Create a Relaxation Nook
Sure, there’s the bedroom and the living room couch where you can lie down and relax, but a way to amp up the comfort in your home is by creating a relaxation nook. This is one area in your home where you can decompress and do relaxing activities like meditate, read, listen to music, watch sunrise and sunsets, etc.
6. Rearrange your furniture
Furniture arrangement can have a significant impact on how a room feels. Heavy, bulky furniture placed too close to each other will make the room feel cramped and stuffy. Consider spacing them out –think easy navigation. If you make it, so it’s easy to walk around in the room, then you’re in the right direction.
If there’s not enough space, consider getting rid of some of the furniture and replacing them with new ones. Too often, we buy an item because we like how it looks, but we don’t consider how it will work with our space. To find furniture that fits all your needs, be sure to choose comfortable furniture that’s easy to find online that not only looks great by itself but also with the decor in your home.
7. Bring in Plants
Indoor plants are increasingly growing in popularity and for many good reasons. They instantly freshen up space, improve indoor air quality, and help relax your senses. There are plenty of varieties to choose from –pick one that you like in appearance and matches with your plant-caring skills. When you are confident that you can take care of one plant, you can start bringing in more.
8. Showcase Personal Items
There’s bad clutter, and then there’s good clutter. Good clutter can be a collage of framed personal photos on your wall or a few treasured souvenirs on the coffee table. You only want to display personal items that make you happy. This adds warmth to a home and will make you feel inspired every time you see them.
