5 Ways to Enjoy Your Backyard this Fall

Fall is rapidly approaching, but that doesn’t mean the time to enjoy your yard is coming to an end! Kelly Holland offers these tips and ideas for ways to make the most of your home’s outdoor space this fall.

How to Enjoy Your Backyard this Fall

Pumpkin spice season is upon us and the fall decorations have started to appear in every store. You may think that the arrival of fall means that everyone should head indoors due to the colder temperatures. As you finish up your seasonal lawn care and gardening, and before you put away any outdoor furniture, take the time to utilize the cooler weather and to enjoy the beauty of fall foliage. Here are a few ways to enjoy your backyard this fall.

Host A Friendly Tournament

An afternoon playing lawn games can be fun for the whole family! Plus, outdoor lawn games give you an excuse to invite friends, family, and neighbors to your backyard. Choose from a wide variety of options like corn hole, crochet, lawn darts, or ladder ball. These games are fun activities on a colder afternoon. Provide snacks and warm beverages to keep the tournament going all day long.

Gaze at The Stars

Take advantage of the fading sunlight and plan a night out under the stars in your own backyard. Wear your favorite sweatshirt and bring along a cozy blanket to lay under a clear Colorado sky. Share the time with your significant other, kids, or grandkids and find your favorite constellations together. You can also turn star gazing into an educational activity. Discuss the moon phases and try to find new constellations using a constellation guide.

Keep the Fire Going

A roaring fire pit is a great way to have fun and stay warm on cool fall evenings. Use a fire pit to make s’mores, roast hot dogs, or try your hand at a custom grilled cheese sandwich. Lighting a fire, as long as it’s done safely, adds ambiance to create a wonderful and inviting atmosphere.

Use the Smoker

You can still use the grill during the fall season, but using a smoker is also a great way to cook outdoors amid falling temperatures. Not only does smoking meats add comfort to your meals with a delicious smoky flavor, but it can also be simple and easy. Smokers take longer to cook, meaning you only have to check on it a few times during the day. Cooking with a smoker is a great fall activity as you can still cook outside even in cold or windy temperatures.

Relax with a Book

Colder temperatures make it appealing to wrap yourself up in a blanket and relax with a warm cup of your favorite beverage. Doing so in your outdoor space allows you to also appreciate the fall colors and feel the crispness in the air. Fall is a favorite season for bookworms who like to venture outside. Grab a book, blanket, and warm drink to unwind in your own backyard.

The sheer display of changing colors and variety of trees’ foliage makes fall in Colorado beyond beautiful. Take advantage of the season by purposely spending time outdoors before the temperatures fall below freezing. Consider reading that favorite book or cozying up with someone to gaze at the stars. Invite friends over to make s’mores around the fire pit or challenge them to a lawn game tournament. Make sure to use the smoker as well to cook food outdoors no matter the weather. There are a variety of ways to enjoy your backyard this fall in Colorado.
